Following the 2021 inaugural exhibition at the “Seaside Gallery” in Pingtung’s Haikou Port. We are delighted to announce that A-Lei has once again been invited by the Pingtung County Government to exhibit at the “Dikeng Site” in Pingtung City’s Citizen Park, which has already received 18 international awards.

The “Dikeng Night Art Museum” A-Lei solo exhibition is a parallel event of the third “Pingtung Summer Carnival.” From July 20th to August 25th, the park will feature large-scale realistic balloon installations personally colored by A-Lei. A 10-meter-tall “Relieved Duck” on the grass and an 8-meter-tall seated “North Sea Elf” on water. Additionally, the “Into the Pit” section at the “Dikeng Site” will showcase a large collection of A-Lei’s brass sculptures from recent years, including the 3.6-meter-tall “Seven Dragon Pigs” created in 2023, as well as newly revealed large-scale ink paintings from 2024. Notably, this includes A-Lei’s largest ink painting to date, titled “How Deep Is the Pit,” with original dimensions of 210x576cm.

The “Dikeng Night Art Museum” exhibition area is divided into four areas. The main area “Wondering in Dikeng,” “I Came In, I Went Out,” “One Two Three Four Five Six Seven Dragon Pigs,” and “Who’s A-Lei.” This innovative interpretation of the museum experience allows visitors to step into the space and interact with the fantastical monster world across different times and dimensions, becoming part of the artwork.

In the main area, viewers and monsters coexist within a dense mist. The mist not only creates an otherworldly atmosphere for the monsters but also adds a refreshing feeling of summer (the mist is filtered and disinfected, ensuring safety). Visitors will immerse themselves in the mysterious ambiance of this alternate dimension.

The “Dikeng Site” was originally constructed during the Japanese colonial period as a paper pulp factory site for Taiwan Sugar Corporation. It reaches a depth of 6 meters and is an accessible underground space. Previously, it served as a storage area for the pulp factory. Now, thanks to the Pingtung County Government’s efforts to revitalize the Citizen Park, the site has been brought back to light while preserving its original weathered walls, creating a new landscape that bridges the past and present.

Pingtung Dikeng has a unique terrain. In this exhibition, while preserving the original beauty of the site, it is transformed into a habitat for monsters. The ‘Dikeng Site’ is turned into a monster dwelling. In addition to the original curatorial team of the ‘Seaside Gallery - Chuan Jian (Yesart Gallery and Ching Yu Shan Fang), the exhibition also specially invited the architectural firm ‘Divooe Zein Architects’ representing the Venice Architecture Biennale as a curatorial consultant. The exhibition aims to capture the ‘natural’ essence of Dikeng and invited the award-winning ‘Üroborus Studiolab’ team to transform the industrial ruins into a mysterious and ethereal space. This nighttime exhibition format is a first in Taiwan and a rare sight internationally. We invite everyone to explore it with A-Lei during this summer.”
